![Speedway 10k
14 Western Tempo athletes took part in Chepstow Harriersâ Speedway 10k on Sunday 18 Jan.
Ben Robinson led the way placing 3rd in 29:51, closely followed by Charlie Jones in 4th (30:40). Phil Wylie amazed us all yet again not only running a PB of 31:02 but also coming in first V40 and 7th overall. Max Kelly finished off the scoring team, giving the men a 1st team finish and smashing yet again his PB only just set in December running 31:14 (10th).
Luke Carroll and Henry James worked together in the race with Luke utilising that fast pace from his youth to close in a brilliant PB of 31:35 (18th) with Henry close behind in 20th (31:36). Our track star Dan Owen proved his ability to perform over the longer distance running 31:56 for 23rd.
Next up was Tom Radley reaching ever so closer to that sub 33, shaving off 15 seconds from his previous PB running 33:16 (55th). Imagine what that time could have been with the new prescription Raybans on. Shame it was a foggy day. Sam Crowtherâs start was less than ideal, joining the race later than planned due to a last minute trip to the toilet. This didnât deter him from smashing his PB by 20+ seconds, running a brilliant 33:25 (65th). His first PB in over 2 years!
Megan Marchant showed her consistency over the 10k more or less equalling her PB set in December at Telford 10k, running 33:34 and coming in 1st lady. But the stand out performance has to come from Jaqueline Rockcliffe, our V50 1st lady, breaking her PB running an excellent 37:19 paced by Chris Roxburgh. Post-race Jackie shared how happy she was, â[Iâm] over the moon with how the race went at Speedway 10k. I didnât think I was in PB shape but with Chrisâ great pacing and the pressure of racing two other ladies, one of them coming in as 2nd V50, it seems I am! Always good to get a PB but extra special at age 55â
Another excellent masters performance came from Joby Hobbs coming in 22nd in the V40 category in 35:25, behind Ryan Lawrence who executed a stunning PB of 35:02.
Well done to all our athletes showing such fine form this early in year and thank you to Chepstow Harriers for organising such a fast race!
